Will there be lots of dust? Our sanding process is extremely clean. Our sanding machines are hooked up to vacuums and dust separators, which enable us to contain 99% of our dust, leaving your home cleaner, safer, and healthier.
What do I need to do before my floors are refinished? All furniture needs to be removed from the floors being refinished. Our sanding machines create noise and vibration that could cause small items and pictures to fall so anything valuable should be removed. We can sand tight to baseboards, so it is optional if you would like to remove them or leave them in place. We will also need to be able to access a dryer or stove plug to run our machines.
When is it safe to move furniture back in after refinishing hardwood floors? Depending on humidity conditions, you can usually move your furniture back in the next day, but area rugs will need to wait at least one week.
How bad will the smell and fumes be? We use primarily water based finishes, which produce much less odour and VOC's than traditional oil finishes, The staining process, if you are having the floors stained after sanding will produce a stronger smell.
How long does the refinishing process take? It all depends on the size and/or area you are having refinished. A full sanding/refinishing usually takes 1 week where other maintenance services we provide can be complete in 1-2 days.
Do I need to leave the house while the floors are being refinished? It is not necessary for most customers to vacate their homes while the floors are being refinished although the sanding process can be noisy. Finish coats are usually dry within 3 hours and customers and floors can be walked on once dry.
When can furniture be moved back after refinishing? Our water based finishes are approximately 80% cured after 24 hours and fully cured in 3-4 days. Most furniture can be lifted and placed back the very next day. Furniture should never be dragged on hardwood if at all possible.
How do I clean my hardwood floors? Hardwood floors should be swept or dust mopped regularly as dirt and debris can act like sandpaper and wear down the floor. When cleaning, avoid a mop and bucket which could lead to excessive amounts of water on the floor. Instead use fine spray mist cleaners and neutral ph floor products that are specifically made for hardwood flooring.
